## Article 1: Assigning a ZOLEO Device in the OK Alone App

Workers can now assign their own ZOLEO device directly from the OK Alone mobile app. This gives teams far more flexibility, especially when ZOLEO units are shared between workers or used only for specific remote tasks.

This guide explains how the feature works, what your organisation must set up beforehand, and the step-by-step process workers follow to assign or unassign their ZOLEO device.

## Before You Begin

To use ZOLEO self-assignment, your organisation must provide OK Alone with a current list of all ZOLEO devices, including:

  * Device IMEI (15-digit number)

  * Device phone number

  * Optional friendly name (e.g., “Forestry Team ZOLEO 1”)

Once the list is added to your company account, all approved devices will be available for workers to search and assign from inside the OK Alone app.

## Why Use Self-Assignment?

Workers often use different ZOLEO devices on different days, or only take a satellite device when travelling to a remote area. This feature removes admin overhead and ensures each worker can quickly connect to the correct ZOLEO before starting their shift.

**Key advantages:**

  * Workers select their own device when needed

  * No dashboard changes required

  * Ensures all status updates, check-ins, and alerts route through the right ZOLEO

  * Prevents confusion when devices are shared across teams

## How Workers Assign Their ZOLEO Device

### Step 1: Open Useful Links

Open the OK Alone app, log in, and tap the menu icon.
Select **Useful Links**.

### Step 2: Choose “Assign Your ZOLEO”

In the Useful Links list, tap **Assign Your ZOLEO** to open the assignment screen.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40992801020817)

### Step 3: Search for Your Device

You’ll now see:

  * Your current assigned device (or “No ZOLEO assigned”)

  * A search box for friendly name, IMEI, or phone number

  * A list of available devices

Begin typing to filter the list.

### Step 4: Select and Assign

Tap the device you want to use, then tap **Assign Selected Device**.

Once assigned, your chosen ZOLEO will appear at the top of the screen under **Current ZOLEO Assignment**.

This assignment takes effect immediately. Any other worker previously using that device will be unassigned automatically.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40992814434449)

## Unassigning a Device

At the end of your shift or when you’re done using the ZOLEO:

  1. Return to the **Assign Your ZOLEO** page

  2. Tap **Unassign Device** at the bottom

This frees the device for another worker and ensures your next shift doesn’t accidentally use the wrong ZOLEO.

## Important Notes

  * A ZOLEO device must be assigned **before** starting a session using satellite messaging.

  * If the worker forgets to unassign their device, the next worker can still claim it—assignment always follows the most recent selection.

  * If no devices appear in search, your organisation may not have provided device details yet. Contact your administrator or email [customer.support@ok-alone.com](mailto:customer.support@ok-alone.com)[](mailto:customer.support@okalone.net) for help.

## Article 2: Introducing Live Activities on iPhone — Safety Status at a Glance

Section: App Features

Article URL: https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/40891549525393-Introducing-Live-Activities-on-iPhone-Safety-Status-at-a-Glance

We’re bringing a helpful new upgrade to the OK Alone iOS app: **Live Activities**. This feature keeps your work status visible right on your lock screen, without needing to unlock your phone or open the app. It’s a simple, steady way to stay aware of your check-ins and monitoring throughout your shift.

## **Stay Informed Without Lifting a Finger**

Live Activities appear on the lock screen. They stay there for your entire shift, updating automatically as things change. Whether a timer is counting down or monitoring is running quietly in the background, you’ll always know your status with a quick glance.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40892848650001)

## **Clear, Easy-to-Read Status Indicators**

Depending on what’s happening during your shift, the display will automatically show the right information:

  * **Timed Activities** – A clear countdown for tasks that have their own timer.

  * **High-Risk Check-Ins** – A prominent warning-style countdown when you’re in high-risk mode.

  * **Regular Check-Ins** – Your regular check-in timer displayed front and centre.

  * **Monitoring Active** – When you’re on shift without a timer, it reassures you that monitoring is still running.

Everything updates on its own—no interruptions, no extra steps.

## **Immediate Alerts When Something’s Wrong**

If a check-in becomes overdue, the display switches to a bold red warning so you’re instantly aware. The app will also sound an alarm to make sure it isn’t missed. This keeps you informed and helps ensure your safety is never left to chance.

## **Works Even When Your Phone is Locked**

On supported iPhones, Live Activities stay visible even when the screen dims, using very little battery. And if you tap the banner, the OK Alone app opens instantly so you can check in or update your status.

## **Reliable and Seamless**

Even if you close the app, Live Activities continue running and will update again as soon as you return. Everything is designed to keep your status accurate and up to date, so you always know where you stand.

If you’re using iOS 16.1 or later, you’ll get this feature as soon as you update OK Alone. It’s a simple improvement that makes a big difference—keeping your check-ins, timers, and safety status clear and close at hand.

## Article 4: Companion Mode — Your Personal Safety Partner

Section: App Features
Article ID: 40649935021201
Article URL: https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/40649935021201-Companion-Mode-Your-Personal-Safety-Partner
Created: 2025-11-05T15:56:35Z
Updated: 2025-11-05T15:56:40Z

---

At OK Alone, we know that many safety risks for lone workers don’t begin as full-blown emergencies, but rather as moments of discomfort: walking to your car at night, entering an unfamiliar neighbourhood, or being alone in a remote location until someone arrives.

That’s why we’re proud to introduce **Companion Mode** — a dedicated service designed for exactly those moments.

### What is Companion Mode?

Companion Mode is your go-to option when you **feel unsafe** , but you’re __not yet__ in an active emergency. Press the Help button in the OK Alone app or on your device, and you’ll be connected immediately with a trained operator at our Safety Monitoring Center.

Once connected, the operator will **stay on the line with you** , offering a reassuring voice, monitoring your situation, and remaining with you until you reach a safe place.

### Why use Companion Mode?

  * Because you know you’re not just fine — you’d rather not be alone until you’re safe.

  * Because you’d like someone listening, ready to respond **if** the situation turns worse.

  * Because you know the difference between being __uncomfortable__ and being in a __critical incident__ — and you want the right level of monitoring for each.

### How it works

  1. You feel uneasy or unsafe.

  2. Press the Help button on your OK Alone device or app.

  3. You’re connected to a trained ARC operator.

  4. Explain your situation briefly: e.g., “I’m walking to my car in a dim‐lit lot,” or “I’m waiting in an unfamiliar area for my ride.”

  5. You can put your phone on loudspeaker (if helpful) so the operator can hear ambient sounds.

  6. The operator remains online with you and monitors for any signs of escalation.

  7. If your situation worsens — for example: you’re followed, you’re blocked from leaving, or you feel an urgent threat — the operator instantly escalates to a full emergency (Red Alert) and dispatches needed help.

  8. Once you reach safety (your car, building, ride person, etc.), you can end the session.

### Who is covered?

All lone workers using OK Alone __without SMC__ (Standard Monitoring Contract) are eligible. Whether you’re working evenings, in remote locations, or in unfamiliar terrain — Companion Mode is here for you.

### Why this matters

For decades, lone-worker safety has focused on panic alarms and full emergencies. What hasn’t always been addressed is the “in-between” moment – when you’re alone, feeling uneasy, and would like someone to stay with you until you’re safe. Companion Mode fills that gap.
With OK Alone’s trusted monitoring infrastructure behind you, you’re not just pushing a button — you’re gaining a partner until you arrive at safety.

The OK Alone Android app offers multiple ways for workers to discreetly request help in an emergency—without needing to unlock their phone or open the app.
These methods allow quick and subtle activation, ideal for high-risk or sensitive situations.

**Discreet Help Alert Options include:**

  * **SOS Power Button**

  * **Shake for Help**

  * **Android Shortcuts**

## [**1\. SOS Power Button**](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/40645327775377)

**What it does:**
Lets you trigger a Help alert by pressing your phone’s **power button multiple times** in succession.

**How it works:**
When enabled, OK Alone monitors your power button presses. A specific sequence—such as 3 or 4 presses—sends an instant Help alert to your monitor(s) with your GPS location.

**Benefits:**

  * Works even when the phone is locked

  * No need to open the app

  * Ideal for discreet or hands-off emergencies

## [2\. Shake for Help](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/35352548446865)

**What it does:**
Lets you activate a Help alert by **shaking your phone strongly** —no button presses or screen interaction required.

**How it works:**
When you shake the device, OK Alone starts a **20-second countdown** with a vibration and notification.

  * If it’s a real emergency, let the countdown continue—your Help alert will be sent automatically.

  * If it’s a false alarm, open the app and tap **Cancel Help**.

## 3\. Android Shortcuts

**What they do:**
Android shortcuts let you **trigger Help or Check-In actions directly from your home screen** , without opening the OK Alone app.
This feature provides another discreet, one-tap method for quick access to safety features.

**Example:**
Long-press the OK Alone icon on your home screen to see a menu of shortcuts:

**Available shortcuts:**

  * **Start Shift** – Begin your shift monitoring instantly.

  * **Get Help** – Immediately trigger a Help alert.

  * **Check In** – Send your regular safety check-in.

  * **End Shift** – Finish your current session.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40648963385489)

**Tip:**
Add OK Alone to your home screen dock for instant access, even if your phone is locked or on standby.

Workers can now trigger an emergency alert by quickly pressing their phone’s power button multiple times — without unlocking the device or opening the app.

## Introduction to the Power Button SOS

This provides a discreet, fast way to call for help when workers can’t safely access their phone or need to avoid drawing attention.

The feature is disabled by default and can be managed through a dedicated settings screen accessible from the main menu.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40645332316945)

## OK Alone Power Button SOS Overview

The **Power Button SOS** feature lets you signal for help by pressing your phone’s **power button several times in quick succession**.
It works even when your screen is locked and your phone is in your pocket.

To turn the feature on or manage your preferences:

  1. Open the **OK Alone** app.

  2. Tap the **Menu (☰)** icon.

  3. Select **SOS Button**.

  4. Toggle the feature **On**.

  5. Choose how many button presses trigger the alert (for example, 4 or 6).

  6. Select whether a notification should appear when triggered.

  7. Tap **Save Settings**.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40645332317969)

## OK Alone vs. Android Emergency SOS

The key difference lies in how each feature is triggered:

  * **Android Emergency SOS:** Activated by pressing the power button **five or more times rapidly**. It automatically dials emergency services (e.g., 999, 911, 112).

  * **OK Alone Power Button SOS:** Sends an alert through the OK Alone system to your designated monitors or monitoring centre.

Both use the power button, so they may conflict if activated the same way.

## Why They Might Conflict

Since both features use the power button:

  * **Android SOS takes priority** — it’s built into the system.

  * **Rapid presses may trigger both** , resulting in unwanted emergency calls.

## How to Avoid the Conflict

#### **Option 1: Disable Android Emergency SOS**

If available on your phone:

  1. Go to **Settings > Safety and emergency > Emergency SOS**.

  2. Turn off **Use Emergency SOS** or **Call emergency services**.

> Some devices (especially Samsung) don’t allow full disablement — continue with Option 2.

#### **Option 2: Press the Power Button More Slowly**

If you want to keep Android’s Emergency SOS active, you can avoid triggering it by **pressing your power button more slowly** when using OK Alone.

  * Android detects SOS when the power button is pressed **five times very quickly** (faster than two presses per second).

  * If you press the power button **about twice per second** , OK Alone can still recognize your presses **without** activating Android’s SOS.

This allows you to use OK Alone’s Power Button SOS safely on Samsung and other Android devices where the built-in Emergency SOS cannot be disabled.

## Article 7: Using iPhone Satellite SMS with OK Alone

Section: Device Guides
Article ID: 39498302956561
Article URL: https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/39498302956561-Using-iPhone-Satellite-SMS-with-OK-Alone

---

With iPhone 14 and later (running iOS 18 or higher), Apple has introduced **Messages via Satellite**. This lets you send and receive text messages when you’re completely out of Wi-Fi and mobile coverage. OK Alone can use this feature to help you stay connected and update your status safely when you’re off-grid.

This guide explains how it works with OK Alone and what to expect.

## When Does Satellite SMS Apply?

Satellite SMS is only used if:

  * You are using an **iPhone 14 or newer** with **iOS 18+**.

  * You are located in a supported region (**currently U.S., Canada, and Mexico**).

  * You have **no Wi-Fi or mobile data** coverage.

In this situation, OK Alone’s [**Limited Coverage Mode**](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/35352516554641-Low-Signal-Limited-Coverage-Mode-Using-the-App-with-No-Data-WiFi) will activate, giving you the option to send your check-in by SMS

## How It Works with OK Alone

  1. **Try to Check In as Usual**

     * Open the OK Alone app and attempt your check-in or status update.

  2. **App Detects No Coverage**

     * If there’s no data/Wi-Fi, Limited Coverage Mode appears.

     * Choose **Send SMS** from the pop-up.

  3. **iPhone Switches to Messages**

     * OK Alone automatically prepares a text message to the OK Alone status number for your country.

     * Your iPhone will detect there’s no signal and prompt you to connect to a satellite.

  4. **Aim at the Sky**

     * Follow the on-screen instructions from Apple.

     * Hold your phone outside with a clear view of the sky/horizon until the message is sent.

  5. **Confirm in OK Alone**

     * Return to the OK Alone app and tap **Manual Update → Yes** to confirm your update was sent.

## Regional Availability

  * Apple currently supports **U.S., Canada, and Mexico**.

  * Other regions will be added as Apple and carriers gain regulatory approval.

  * If you are outside these regions, OK Alone still supports satellite check-ins through devices like [**ZOLEO**](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/35229518340369-Using-OK-Alone-with-ZOLEO-for-Remote-Status-Updates) or [**SPOT X**](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/35908872313617)**.**

Updated: 2025-07-30T23:06:50Z

---

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your OK Alone account by requiring a one-time code sent via SMS in addition to your PIN.

## What Is MFA?

MFA provides an additional login step that verifies the user’s identity using a code sent to their registered phone number. This helps ensure that only authorized users can access the account—even if their PIN becomes compromised.

**Key points:**

  * MFA is **optional** for workers.

  * Codes are sent to the **primary phone number** listed in each worker’s profile.

  * MFA is available for accounts on the **Automated Monitoring Plan**.

## How to Enable MFA

  1. **Request Activation**

     * MFA must first be enabled on your account.

     * Contact your OK Alone representative or email [**customer.support@ok-alone.com**](mailto:customer.support@okalone.net) to request activation.

  2. **Turn On MFA in Settings**

     * After activation, log in to the OK Alone dashboard.

     * Go to **Settings** > **Company Settings**.

     * Under **App MFA** , select **Yes**.

     * Click **Update** to save changes.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/37469047040145)
  3. **Verify Worker Phone Numbers**

     * MFA codes are sent to the **primary phone number** on file for each worker.

     * Go to **Workers** > **Edit** to confirm that each worker’s phone number is correct and formatted with the appropriate country code (e.g., +1 604 555 1234).

## Logging In with MFA

  1. **Enter Your PIN**

     * Open the OK Alone app and log in as usual with your worker PIN.

  2. **Receive Your Code**

     * A one-time 6-digit code will be sent by SMS to your primary phone number.

  3. **Enter the Code**

     * Type the code into the app when prompted to complete your login.

  4. **Access Granted**

     * You will be taken to the main dashboard of the app.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/37469047041169)

**Important:** Ensure your phone is able to receive SMS messages and that your phone number is up to date.

## Troubleshooting

  * **Didn’t receive the code?**

    * Check that your phone has mobile service and can receive SMS messages.

    * Confirm your number is entered correctly in your worker profile.

  * **Still having issues?**

    * Contact your monitor or email [**customer.support@ok-alone.net**](mailto:customer.support@okalone.net) for assistance.

You’ll link the device via SPOT’s Data Push, create Ok Alone contacts and predefined messages, sync the settings to your SPOT X, and learn how drivers use these messages to start and end shifts or request help.

##

## Prerequisite: Link SPOT via Data Push

Before you begin, follow the steps in [Link SPOT to Ok Alone with SPOT’s Data Push](https://okalonedocs.com/spot-device/) to configure Data Push and add your device’s ESN to a worker’s profile in Ok Alone. Once that is complete, return here to set up your SPOT X-specific settings.

       1. **End Shift Message**

          * Replace one predefined message with:

`[Worker PIN] end`

• Example: “123456 end”

          * Set the contact to **Ok Alone** (created above).

          * Save.

       2. **Check In (Start Shift) Message**

          * Replace another predefined message with:

`[Worker PIN] ok`

• Example: “123456 ok”

          * Save.

       3. **Help/S.O.V. Message**

          * Replace a third predefined message with:

`[Worker PIN] help`

• Example: “123456 help”

          * Save.

     * Messages can be entered with commas (e.g., “123456,end”) or spaces (“123456 end”). Ok Alone will parse either format.
![spot x predefined messages edit screen](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/spot-x-predefined-edit-1024x451.png)

  3. **Edit Default Check In** (Optional)

     * Still in **Message Profile Settings** , select **Check In**.

     * Change it to:

`[Worker PIN] ok`

• Example: “123456 ok"

     * This ensures pressing the **Check In** button on the SPOT X starts a shift or confirms you’re safe during a shift.

     * Save.

> Whenever you update messages, you must sync your SPOT X (next step) so the changes take effect on the device.

## ![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/spot-x-predefined-message-save.png)

  1. In **Edit Settings** , find **Tracking Intervals**.

  2. Choose a preset interval (e.g., 2 minutes, 5 minutes) or enter a custom schedule.

  3. Click **Save**.

##

## 5\. Sync Your SPOT X

After making all online changes, synchronize them to your SPOT X:

  1. **Connect SPOT X to a Computer** via USB.

  2. **Open the SPOT Sync Utility**

     * If you don’t have SPOT Sync installed, download it from SPOT’s website.

  3. **Perform a Sync**

     * With the SPOT X powered on and detected, click **Sync** (or **Update**) in the utility.

     * Wait for the process to complete—do not disconnect early.

Synchronization ensures your SPOT X has the new contact, predefined messages, and tracking intervals.

##

## 6\. Using Your SPOT X with Ok Alone

Once synced, you can use the SPOT X buttons to communicate with Ok Alone:

  1. **Start or End a Shift**

     * Press the **Messages** button on the main menu.

##

## Troubleshooting Tips

  * **SPOT Messages Not Received**

    * Verify the SPOT X contact number is entered correctly (no extra spaces).

    * Confirm your worker’s PIN in Ok Alone matches the PIN used in SPOT messages.

    * Ensure a clear line of sight to the sky when sending messages.

    * Reopen SPOT Sync and repeat the sync procedure.

    * Check that SPOT Sync reports a successful transfer before disconnecting.

  * **Tracking Intervals Seem Incorrect**

    * Confirm your SPOT X battery is sufficiently charged—low power can disrupt tracking.

    * Recheck the interval setting in **Tracking Intervals** , then sync again.

  * **No SPOT Device Option in Ok Alone**

    * Make sure **SPOT Device Integration** is enabled under **Settings → Extra Features**.

    * If still missing, contact support at **customer.support@ok-alone.com**

##

## Key Takeaways

  * **Link via Data Push First** : Complete the [Data Push setup](https://okalonedocs.com/spot-device/) before configuring your G3.

  * **Create Ok Alone Contact** : Add one of the regional phone numbers to your SPOT X contacts.

## 1\. Required Phone Permissions

Ok Alone needs permission to access your location only when a shift is running. Grant these permissions at first login:

**Android**

  * **Location:** Allow all the time

**iPhone**

  * **Location:** Always

  * **Notifications:** Allow

After changing any permissions, restart the app and any active shifts. If settings won’t apply, reinstall the app and accept defaults.

**Please Note:** The Allow all the time/Always permission means we can update your location when the shift is running and the phone is in the background. We will never access your location unless there is an active shift.

## 2\. When Tracking Is Active

  * You are **invisible** on the map until you tap **Start Shift**.

  * After starting, your GPS pin appears and updates throughout your shift.

  * Tap **End Shift** to stop location updates and hide your pin.
![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/when-tracking-on.jpg)

## 3\. In-App GPS Modes

Choose the mode that balances accuracy and battery life:

  * **GPS High**

    * Updates every 10 seconds, even without cell signal.

    * **Use only** when you need near-continuous tracking.

  * **GPS Normal** _(Recommended)_

    * Updates every 1–2 minutes.

    * Provides accurate location with minimal battery impact.

  * **Non-GPS**

    * Sends approximate location at regular intervals.

    * Maximizes battery life. Use only if precise location isn’t required.

  * **Off**

    * No location updates. Puts you at risk during an emergency.

To change modes: open the app’s **Settings** menu (☰) and select **Location Mode**.

![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/gps-settings.png)

## 4\. Optimized GPS Handling

Ok Alone leverages your device’s native location services to conserve power:

  * **Adaptive Updates:** Location frequency increases when you’re moving quickly and decreases when you’re stationary.

  * **Battery Saver:** If your battery is low, update intervals widen automatically to preserve charge.

## 5\. What Location Data We Access

  * We record GPS coordinates **only** during an active shift.

  * Your monitor sees your live location solely to verify safety and dispatch help if needed.

  * No background tracking occurs outside of shifts.

## Article 16: Using a Satellite Device with Ok Alone

Section: Device Guides
Article ID: 35352578288145
Article URL: https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/35352578288145-Using-a-Satellite-Device-with-Ok-Alone

Updated: 2025-06-12T22:27:37Z

---

When you’re outside cell service—on offshore rigs, remote wilderness, or in vehicles—your satellite device can send SMS to Ok Alone just like a basic phone. You’ll use PIN-based commands to start/end shifts, check in, request help, and more.

## 1\. Supported Devices & Integrations

  * **ZOLEO** : Full integration—follow the ZOLEO setup guide - [Using OK Alone with ZOLEO for Remote Status Updates – OK Alone](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/35229518340369-Using-OK-Alone-with-ZOLEO-for-Remote-Status-Updates)

  * **Globalstar SPOT** : See the SPOT integration instructions.**

**

  * **Other SMS-capable devices** : Any device that can send and receive SMS to a custom number will work.

## 2\. Country-Specific Phone Numbers

Send your SMS commands to the number for your region:

  * **Canada:** +1 604 256 5739 or +1 438 500 1809

  * **USA:** +1 650 402 3018

  * **UK:** +44 7380 336757

  * **Australia:** +61 417 667 857

  * **New Zealand:** +64 9 887 8405

  * **Ireland:** +353 868 006 092

## 3\. Checking In via SMS

Use the format **< PIN> <action>**:

Action | Command Example | Result
---|---|---
Start | `123456 start` | Begins a shift
Check In / Start | `123456 ok` | Sends/checks in; starts if needed
Help | `123456 help` | Sends an emergency alert
End | `123456 end` | Ends the current shift
Status | `123456 status` | Returns your current status

  * To send an additional message just add the message after the action:
**PIN action message**

## 4\. Pre-Set Message Templates

Many satellite devices let you program “pre-set” messages. Save your three essential commands as templates to save time:

  * **PIN ok** (start/check in)

  * **PIN help** (emergency alert)

  * **PIN end** (end shift)

You can include default text or coordinates in each template as needed.

## 5\. Including Location Coordinates

If your device supports auto-attaching GPS coordinates, enable it in your device or provider portal (e.g., Garmin’s explore.garmin.com). Otherwise, manually add latitude/longitude after your action:

  * **PIN action 33.812511,-117.918976**

## 6\. Check-In Reminders on Satellite Devices

  * You’ll receive SMS reminders when a check-in is due, just as you would in the app.

  * If your satellite device has an inbound number assigned, Ok Alone can send shift start, check-in, and end-shift reminders there.

  * You may also run both the mobile app and satellite device together: start your shift in the app for visual reminders, then check in via SMS when out of coverage.

## 7\. Dashboard Setup for Satellite-Only Users

In the Ok Alone dashboard, choose **Older Phone** when adding a worker who uses only SMS or calls. This ensures they receive SMS-based setup instructions rather than app download links.

![How a worker will use Ok Alone, a smartphone app or with an Older Phone using SMS or calls.](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/smartphone-v-older-phone-300x127.png)

## 8\. Sending a High-Risk Check-In

To shorten your next check-in interval during a hazardous task, send:

  * **123456 highrisk 10** – set up a high risk for 10 minutes
  * **123456 highrisk 30** – set up a high risk for 30 minutes
  * **123456 highrisk 60** – set up a high risk for 60 minutes

![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/igh-risk-check-in-300x175.png)

## 9\. Automated Status Replies (Comms Plan)

If your account includes the Comms plan, enable **Automated-Comms-Reply** under **Dashboard > Settings > Company Settings**. You’ll then receive an instant status SMS whenever you send any valid command.

![Automated-Comms-reply](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/elementor/thumbs/Automated-Comms-reply-qqt1cwhnegeq6qfgl3m6vcrcbtu6j77d5pv2owtk48.png)

## 10\. Feature Limitations

  * **Worker-Down alerts** and other advanced mobile-app functions are not available via SMS.

  * Some device-specific features (e.g., SOS button) may not integrate—consult your provider.

OK Alone can help keep workers safe, even if they have low signal / limited coverage on their app.

If the worker tries to check in and there is no Wi-Fi or data, our app will let the worker know this and automatically allow them to check in via phone call or SMS. Many of our clients use this feature, which works on both iPhone and Android.

## How does Low Signal work?

When you’re in an area without Wi-Fi or mobile data, the OK Alone app switches to Limited Coverage Mode to help you stay connected. Follow these steps to check in or update your status when offline:

#### Step 1: Attempt to Check In or Update Status

  * Open the OK Alone app as usual.
  * Try to perform your regular check-in or status update.

#### Step 2: App Detects No Data Connection

  * If there is **no Wi-Fi or mobile data** available, the app will recognize this.
  * A **pop-up message** will appear informing you that Limited Coverage Mode is active.

#### Step 3: Choose Your Update Method

  * The pop-up will present you with options:
    * **Send SMS**
    * **Make a Phone Call**

#### Step 4: Send Your Update

  * **If you choose SMS** :
    * An SMS message will be **automatically created**.
    * Tap **Send** to complete your update.
  * **If you choose Phone Call** :
    * The app will dial our **automated status line**.
    * Follow the voice prompts to confirm your update.

#### Step 5: Confirm the Manual Update

  * After sending your SMS or completing the call, **return to the app**.
  * Tap **Manual Update**.
  * Select **Yes** to confirm that you’ve completed the update via SMS or phone.

## Low Signal Mode on Android

![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/image-1.png)

## Low Signal Mode on iPhone

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35417111406225)

The contact number will automatically be updated based on the worker’s country.

## When is Low Signal Mode Necessary?

While employees stationed in bustling, metropolitan regions generally have dependable data connectivity, those operating in less populated, rural regions or buildings notorious for inadequate signal coverage might experience issues. In these circumstances, Limited Coverage Mode becomes an essential communication tool.

OK Alone’s Limited Coverage Mode ensures uninterrupted safety monitoring for lone workers stationed in these problematic areas. If your lone workers frequently travel to distant locations with limited phone coverage, Ok Alone also works with satellite service providers to guarantee reliable global coverage.

**Overview**
If you don’t have access to the Ok Alone app—such as when using an older phone, satellite phone, or if there’s no Wi-Fi/data connection—you can update your status by sending an SMS. This method lets you start a shift, check in, request help, end a shift, and even set a high-risk check-in using simple text commands.

##

## 1\. How SMS Status Updates Work

To change your status via SMS, send a text message to Ok Alone containing your Worker PIN followed by a status keyword. Each keyword triggers a different action:

  * **`<PIN> start`** – Starts a shift

  * **`<PIN> ok`** – Sends a check-in (also starts a shift if none is active)

  * **`<PIN> help`** – Sends a help request

  * **`<PIN> end`** – Ends a shift

  * **`<PIN> status`** – Replies with your current status

  * **`<PIN> highrisk <minutes>`** – Sets a high-risk check-in for the specified number of minutes (e.g., `123456 highrisk 10` for 10 minutes)

##
2\. SMS Command Examples

  1. **Starting or Checking In:**

     * Send: `123456 start` or `123456 ok`

     * Result: Your shift begins (or records a check-in if the shift is already active).

  2. **Requesting Help:**

     * Send: `123456 help`

     * Result: An immediate Help Alert is sent to your designated Monitor.

  3. **Ending a Shift:**

     * Send: `123456 end`

     * Result: Your shift ends, and no further check-ins are required.

  4. **Getting Your Current Status:**

     * Send: `123456 status`

     * Result: You receive an automated reply showing whether you’re “on shift,” “checked in,” or “off shift.” (Requires Comms plan)

  5. **Setting a High-Risk Check-In:**

     * Send: `123456 highrisk 15` (sets a 15-minute high-risk timer)

     * Result: You’ll receive a reminder in the specified minutes; if you don’t check in, the system treats you as high-risk.

## 3\. Phone Numbers by Region

Save your region’s number under a contact name like **“Ok Alone SMS”** so you can text quickly:

  * **Canada:** +1 604 256 5739 or +1 438 500 1809

  * **USA:** +1 650 402 3018

  * **United Kingdom:** +44 7380 336 757

  * **Australia:** +61 417 667 857

  * **New Zealand:** +64 9 887 8405

  * **Ireland:** +35 3868 006 092

> **Tip:** Double-check that you saved the correct number for your region to avoid misdirected messages.

##

## 4\. Setting a High-Risk Check-In via SMS

A high-risk check-in ensures extra monitoring during periods of elevated danger (e.g., working at heights). To create one:

  1. Open your SMS app.

  2. Send: `<PIN> highrisk <minutes>` (for example, `123456 highrisk 30`).

  3. You’ll receive a confirmation message indicating the high-risk timer has started.

     * **123456 highrisk 10** – set up a high risk for 10 minutes
     * **123456 highrisk 30** – set up a high risk for 30 minutes
     * **123456 highrisk 60** – set up a high risk for 60 minutes

If you don’t send a follow-up check-in before the timer expires, Ok Alone immediately treats you as “late” and follows your escalation plan.

## ![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/image-11.png)

##
5\. Receiving an Automated Status Reply

Organizations on the **Comms plan** can enable automated status replies. When you text `<PIN> status`, Ok Alone immediately sends back your current state (e.g., “You are on shift and last checked in 10 minutes ago”). To ensure this works:

  1. Your account must be on the Comms plan.

  2. An administrator must enable “Automated SMS Status” on the Dashboard:

     * Go to **Settings → Company Settings**.

     * Toggle **Automated SMS Status Reply** to **On**.

## What is Worker Down?

The **Worker Down** feature uses your phone’s built-in sensors to detect if you have stopped moving. If no movement is detected within a set period, the app triggers an alert to ensure your safety.

This feature helps protect workers who may become unconscious or incapacitated by automatically notifying your assigned monitors if you don’t respond.

## How Does Worker Down Work?

  * You set a timer between **3 minutes and 1 hour** to define how long the phone waits before considering you "down" due to inactivity.

  * When no movement is detected for the set time, the phone will:

    1. Sound an alarm on your phone to alert you.

    2. Prompt you to confirm you are okay via the app.

    3. If you don’t respond, the alert is escalated to your allocated monitor.

    4. Your monitor will then follow the escalation procedure to check on you and provide help if needed.

## How to Set Up Worker Down

  1. Open the OK Alone app and select **Worker Down** from the menu.
![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35818640644241)

  2. In the Worker Down settings:

     * Toggle **Worker Down On**.

     * Choose the **movement timer** duration that suits your work environment.

     * Select the **sensitivity level** for movement detection:

       * _High Sensitivity_ detects small movements like sitting or minor shifts.

       * _Low Sensitivity_ requires more significant movement like walking or running to reset the timer.
**![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35818650720401)

**

  3. Tap **Save** to apply your Worker Down settings.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35818640650001)

## How to Turn Off Worker Down

  1. Go to **Worker Down Settings** from the app menu.

  2. Change the toggle from **Worker Down On** to **Worker Down Off**.

  3. Tap **Save Setting** to confirm.

## Tips for Using Worker Down Effectively

  * Adjust sensitivity based on your phone model and activity level to reduce false alarms.

  * Test the feature before your shift to ensure it works as expected.

  * Always press **Check In** after making changes during a shift to sync your settings.

  * If you get frequent false alarms, try lowering the sensitivity or increasing the timer duration.

## Article 24: How to Use Timed Activity to Enhance Worker Safety

Section: App Features
Article ID: 35352492423441
Article URL: https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/35352492423441-How-to-Use-Timed-Activity-to-Enhance-Worker-Safety
Created: 2025-05-16T22:16:23Z
Updated: 2025-06-12T19:41:29Z

---

The **Timed Activity** feature lets workers set a one-time timer for specific tasks, giving them more control over their safety during jobs with varying durations or risk levels. This helps ensure that both workers and monitors stay informed and connected throughout the activity.

## What is a Timed Activity?

A Timed Activity is a safety timer workers start for a specific task or event, with an optional description and duration. It allows workers to:

  * Set precise time limits for individual tasks

  * Provide activity details for monitor awareness

  * Extend the timer if the task takes longer than expected

  * Receive check-in reminders when the timer ends

## How Does Timed Activity Work?

### 1\. Creating a Timed Activity

  * **Name your activity:** Workers type a description of the task (e.g., client visit, equipment check) in the _Describe Your Activity_ field. You can also include location or client details.

  * **Set the duration:** Choose how long the activity will last by selecting either:

    * _How Long Will Your Activity Be?_ — select time in 10-minute increments, or

    * _When Will Your Activity End?_ — select an end time in 30-minute increments.
![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Choose-time-duration.png)

  * **Start the activity:** Press _Start Your Activity_ to begin the timer. The app will display the activity details and countdown.

![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/TA-Home-page-cropped.png)

### 2\. Monitoring the Activity

  * The worker’s assigned monitor can see the timed activity and all its details in real time on the dashboard.

  * The worker’s app screen shows the running activity.

  * Workers can cancel the activity anytime by pressing _Cancel Activity_.

![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Dashboard-Activity-Active-1024x442.png)

### 3\. Extending the Timed Activity

  * If the task requires more time, workers can add an extra 10 minutes by extending the timer.

  * This flexibility allows the monitoring system to adapt to real-world situations.

### 4\. Ending the Timed Activity

  * When the timer expires, the app prompts the worker to **check in** by pressing _Complete Activity_.

  * This confirms the task is done safely and stops the timer.

  * If the worker does not respond, the system sends reminder notifications.

### 5\. Alerts for Monitors

  * If the worker fails to check in, extend the timer, or respond after reminders and the grace period, the monitor’s dashboard turns red.

  * Monitors receive notifications indicating the check-in is overdue, prompting immediate follow-up.
![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Dashboard-Overdue-1024x445.png)

## Who Should Use Timed Activity?

Timed Activity is especially useful for:

  * Workers performing **short-term or one-off tasks** that have a clear start and end time (e.g., a client visit, equipment inspection, or site check)

  * Employees whose tasks have **variable or uncertain durations** , requiring flexible timing

  * Those working in **higher-risk situations** where more frequent or task-specific check-ins improve safety

  * Workers who want to **communicate specific task details** to their monitors for better oversight

  * Anyone needing a **more precise safety timer** than standard shift check-ins allow

Using Timed Activity helps provide clear, task-focused monitoring without needing to adjust the entire shift’s check-in schedule.

## Why Use Timed Activity?

Timed Activity is perfect for workers who:

  * Have tasks with variable or short durations

  * Need to provide specific details about their current activity to their monitor

  * Require a more precise and flexible check-in schedule than regular shift timers allow

It enhances safety by providing clear, task-specific timing and communication, helping both workers and monitors stay informed and responsive.

### Tips for Workers

  * Always provide clear descriptions when creating a Timed Activity.

  * Use the extend feature if your task runs longer than planned.

  * Respond promptly to check-in prompts to avoid unnecessary alerts.

### Tips for Monitors

  * Watch for overdue Timed Activity alerts and follow your escalation procedures.

  * Use activity details to better understand the worker’s current situation.

  * Encourage workers to use Timed Activity for tasks with uncertain duration.

##

## Overview

  * Ok Alone relies on GPS and notifications to track your location and remind you to check in.

  * Granting location access “all the time” ensures background updates, even when your screen is off.

  * Proper notification settings guarantee you don’t miss check-in reminders or alerts.

##

## 1\. App Location Monitoring

  1. Open the Ok Alone app.

  2. Tap **Menu ›› App Settings ›› Location Monitoring**.

  3. Select **GPS Normal**.

**Why GPS Normal?**

     * Uses GPS for accurate location in emergencies.

     * Minimizes battery consumption compared to higher-accuracy modes.

  * **Permissions** show **Location** granted.

##

## 3\. Location Permission

To allow continuous background location updates:

  1. In **Settings ›› Apps ›› Ok Alone ›› Permissions** , tap **Location**.

  2. Set it to **Allow all the time** (not just “While using the app”).
![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-8-settings-4-898x1024.jpg)

> **Tip:** Allowing location “all the time” ensures Ok Alone can detect missed check-ins even when the app is in the background or the device is locked.

##

## 4\. Notification Settings

Proper notification configuration ensures you receive all reminders and alerts:

  1. In **Settings ›› Apps ›› Ok Alone** , tap **Notifications**.

  2. Confirm **Show notifications** is enabled.

  3. Under **Notification categories** , enable each of the following (if present):

     * **Check-In Reminders**

     * **Missed Check-In Alerts**

     * **Help Alerts**

     * **Status Confirmations**

  4. For each category, verify that:

     * **Sound** is turned on (choose a distinct tone).

     * **Pop on screen** (or “Peeking”) is enabled so notifications appear even when locked.

     * **Lock screen notifications** are set to “Show all notification content.”
![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-8-settings-4-898x1024.jpg)

> **Tip:** If your device shows separate “Sound” and “Vibrate” toggles, enable both to ensure you notice alerts even in silent or Do Not Disturb modes.

A SPOT device can integrate with Ok Alone using SPOT’s Data Push feature. Once linked, your SPOT device can send location updates, start and end shifts, and communicate status—even outside of cellular coverage. Follow the steps below to configure Data Push in your SPOT account and link the device to a worker in Ok Alone.

##

## Prerequisites

  * **SPOT Account with Data Push Enabled**
Ensure your SPOT subscription plan includes the Data Push feature. If you do not see Data Push in your SPOT account, email info@ok-alone.com to request activation.

  * **SPOT Device (e.g., SPOT X or SPOT G3)**
You must have a registered SPOT device with a valid ESN (Electronic Serial Number).

  * **Ok Alone Worker Profile**
Confirm the worker exists in your Ok Alone dashboard (<https://my.okalone.net>). You need access to edit the worker’s profile to paste the SPOT ESN.

##

## 1\. Configure SPOT Data Push

  1. **Sign In to SPOT**

     * Open a browser and go to <https://myaccount.findmespot.com/login>.

     * Enter your SPOT credentials and click **Sign In**.

![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/spot_device-1024x603.png)

  4. **Verify the Link**

     * After saving, the worker’s profile should display the SPOT ESN under **SPOT Device**.

     * Test by sending a test check-in from the SPOT device (refer to SPOT’s user guide for sending a “Check-In” via Data Push). Ok Alone should register the check-in automatically.

##

## 4\. Using Your SPOT Device with Ok Alone

  * **Check-Ins Outside Cellular Coverage**
If you press “Check-In” on your SPOT device, Data Push sends that update to Ok Alone over satellite, marking you safe even without cell service.

  * **Start and End Shifts**
Your SPOT device can request a shift start or end; Ok Alone updates your shift status accordingly.

  * **Communication with Monitors**
Depending on your SPOT plan, you may send custom messages (Help, OK, etc.) that Ok Alone logs as status updates.

> **Tip:** Review the SPOT user manual for your model (SPOT X, SPOT G3, etc.) to learn button sequences for Check-In, Help, and Custom Messages.

##

## Troubleshooting

  * **Data Push Fields Not Available**

    * If the Data Push section is missing or grayed out in your SPOT account, contact info@ok-alone.com to verify your SPOT plan.

  * **SPOT ESN Not Accepted by Ok Alone**

    * Double-check you copied the full ESN (no extra spaces).

    * Confirm the worker’s profile exists and that no other worker uses the same ESN.

  * **Ok Alone Doesn’t Receive SPOT Check-Ins**

    * Ensure the SPOT device’s Data Push settings exactly match the Callback URL (<https://appapiv1.okalone.net/spot>).

    * Verify that your SPOT device is activated and has a clear view of the sky when sending a message.

    * Contact customer support if issues persist: customer.support@ok-alone.net.

##

## Need More Assistance?

  * **Ok Alone Support** : customer.support@ok-alone.net

  * **SPOT Technical Support** : Refer to your SPOT plan documentation or visit <https://www.findmespot.com/> for additional help.

  * **Documentation** : <https://okalonedocs.com/spot-device/>

By completing these steps, your SPOT device will sync with OK Alone’s monitoring system, ensuring worker safety even in remote areas without cell coverage.

    * Restart your computer and SPOTSync, then try again.

  * **Ok Alone Doesn’t Show SPOT Check-Ins**

    * Check that your SPOT Data Push settings still working

    * Confirm your SPOT device has a clear line of sight to the sky when testing.

When you’re about to perform a solitary or unfamiliar task—like traveling to a new site or working alone away from base—use the High-Risk Check-In feature for extra peace of mind. It shortens your next check-in interval so your monitor team is alerted sooner if you don’t respond.

## 1\. What Is High-Risk Check-In?

High-Risk Check-In lets you override your normal check-in schedule with a shorter timer—from 5 minutes up to 5 hours. If you miss this shortened check-in, your monitoring team is notified immediately and can dispatch assistance to your last known location.

## 2\. When to Use High-Risk Check-In

Use High-Risk whenever you:

  * Travel to an unfamiliar location

  * Leave your main work area for a solitary task

  * Enter a situation with elevated hazards or limited communication

## 3\. Setting Up High-Risk Check-In

  1. Tap the **menu icon** (three stacked lines) in the top-left corner of the app.

  2. Select **High Risk** from the menu.

Once you’ve completed your high-risk task or returned to a safe area:

  1. Tap **Check In** on the main screen.

  2. The app resets to your original check-in frequency.

To ensure optimal performance and accurate monitoring on Android 10, we recommend accepting the default permissions and settings when installing the Ok Alone app. If you change any settings, restart the app and any active shifts; if problems persist, reinstall the app and accept the default permissions.

##

## 1\. App Location Monitoring

Ok Alone relies on GPS data to determine your location when you check in or trigger an alert. We recommend the **GPS Normal** setting:

  * **GPS Normal** : Uses GPS for accurate location while minimizing battery consumption.

  * **How to select** : In the Ok Alone app, go to **Menu ›› App Settings ›› Location Monitoring** , then choose **GPS Normal**.
![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-10-app-setting-1-1.jpg)

##

## 2\. Android App Settings

To verify and adjust Ok Alone’s system-level settings on Android 10, open your device’s Settings app:

  1. Go to **Settings ›› Apps & notifications ›› See all apps** (or **App info** , depending on your device).

  2. Scroll to **Ok Alone** , then tap to open its settings page.
![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-10-app-setting-2.jpg)

On the **Ok Alone** app settings page, confirm the following core options:

  * **Notifications** : ON

    * Ensures you receive check-in reminders, alerts, and status confirmations.

  * **Permissions** : Location (granted)

    * Allows Ok Alone to access GPS for check-ins and emergency location updates.

##

## 3\. Location Permission

Android 10 introduces a “one-time” and “allow all the time” option for location. To keep tracking active—even when the app runs in the background—set location to **Allow all the time** :

  1. In **Settings ›› Apps & notifications ›› Ok Alone ›› Permissions**, tap **Location**.

  2. Select **Allow all the time** (not **Allow only while in use**).
![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/app-permission-android10.png)

> **Why “Allow all the time”?**
> Ok Alone must detect missed check-ins and emergency events even if you switch to another app or lock your screen. Choosing **Allow all the time** ensures background location updates continue uninterrupted.

##

## 4\. Notification Settings

Proper notification settings ensure you never miss an urgent alert or check-in reminder. From the **Ok Alone** app settings page in Android:

  1. Tap **Notifications**.

  2. Ensure **Show notifications** is enabled.

  3. For each notification category (such as “Check-In Reminders,” “Alerts,” or “Status Confirmations”), confirm:

     * **Sound** : ON (select a loud, easily audible tone)

     * **Pop on screen** (or “Peeking”): ON (so notifications appear even when the screen is locked)

     * **Lock screen** : Show all notification content

![](https://okalonedocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/android-10-app-setting-4.jpg)

> **Tip:**
>
> * If you see separate channels for “Missed Check-In,” “Help Alerts,” and “Status Replies,” make sure each is set to **High priority** (if available) so they bypass Do Not Disturb when necessary.
>
> * On some devices, you may also have “Allow sound and vibration”—enable both for maximum reliability.
>
>

##

## 5\. Restart and Verify

After updating any location or notification setting:

  1. **Close** the Ok Alone app completely (swipe it away from recent apps).

  2. **Reopen** the app, log in, and ensure your shift has restarted if necessary.

  3. Perform a quick check-in or status update to confirm that:

     * You receive an in-app notification.

     * You receive an SMS or phone call reminder (if you have those enabled).

     * The dashboard shows your correct location.

If settings do not appear to take effect:

  * **Reinstall** the Ok Alone app from the Google Play Store.

  * **Accept all permissions** when prompted on first launch.

  * Reconfigure location to **Allow all the time** and confirm notification channels as described above.

By following these recommendations—especially granting background location access and enabling high-priority notifications—you ensure the Ok Alone app on Android 10 delivers accurate location data and timely alerts, keeping you safe and connected even when the phone is locked or running other apps.

---

The **Shake for Help** feature in OK Alone lets you discreetly trigger a help alert without touching your screen — ideal when you can’t safely unlock your phone or need to call for help quickly.

## How Shake for Help Works

When Shake for Help is enabled, shaking your phone strongly will start a **20-second countdown**.

  * **Notification and vibration:** When the shake is detected, your phone vibrates and a notification appears.

  * **If it’s a real emergency:** Let the phone continue to vibrate — the Help alert will automatically trigger after **20 seconds**.

  * **If it’s a false alarm:** Open the OK Alone app and tap **Cancel Help** during the countdown.

Once triggered, OK Alone immediately sends a **Help alert** to your monitor(s) along with your **GPS location**.

![](https://okalone.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40646068513169)

## Alarm vs Discreet Mode

You can choose between two activation modes:

  * **Alarm Mode:** Plays a loud audible alarm when triggered, signalling that help is being sent.

  * **Discreet Mode:** Silently triggers the alert — perfect if you need to remain unnoticed.

To change modes:

  1.      1. Tap the **Menu (☰)** icon.

     2. Select **Shake for Help**.

     3. Choose **Alarm** or **Discreet – No Alarm**.

## Enabling Shake for Help

Before enabling, confirm you’re using **version 10.3 or newer** of the OK Alone Android app.

  1. Tap the **Menu (☰)** icon in the top-left corner.

## Adjusting Sensitivity

Shake sensitivity determines how much movement is needed to start the countdown. Choose the setting that best fits your work environment.

#### **HIGH Sensitivity**

  * Requires **firm, deliberate shaking** (about **4 full shakes**)

  * Easier to trigger in emergencies but still requires intentional motion

  * **Recommended only for desk or stationary work** where there’s little movement

#### **MEDIUM Sensitivity (Recommended)**

  * Requires **vigorous, deliberate shaking** (about **5 full shakes**)

  * Balanced to reduce false triggers

  * **Best for active workers** standing at a machine or performing slow-movement activities

#### **LOW Sensitivity**

  * Requires **vigorous and sustained shaking** (about **6 full shakes**)

  * Approximate threshold: **40.0 m/s²**

  * Virtually no false positives — ideal for **high-activity environments**

  * **Recommended if you move frequently or may be running** (running may still start a countdown)

## Should Trigger (True Positives)

Shake for Help is designed to respond only to deliberate, emergency-type movement. The following actions will reliably start the alert countdown:

  1. **Vigorous shake** – Hold the phone firmly and shake rapidly back and forth

  2. **Quick wrist flicks** – Two to three fast flicks in succession

  3. **Panic motion** – Rapid up-down or side-side movement

  4. **Emergency shake** – Strong, intentional motion signalling distress

**Overview**
If you monitor worker check-ins primarily from your desktop, you’ll want to ensure Help Alert notifications appear on your screen and play a sound. This guide shows you how to configure both your browser and Windows 11 settings so that Ok Alone Help Alerts are visible and audible.

##

## 1\. Allow Browser Notifications

Your browser must have notification permissions enabled for the Ok Alone Dashboard. Below are steps for Chrome and Edge; the process is similar in other modern browsers.

  1. **Open the Ok Alone Dashboard** in your browser and look at the left side of the address bar for a permissions icon (a padlock or info circle).

  2. **Chrome:**

     * Click the padlock icon → **Site settings**.

     * In the “Permissions” list, find **Notifications** and set it to **Allow**.

  3. **Edge:**

     * Click the padlock icon → **Permissions for this site**.

     * Under “All permissions,” locate **Notifications** and choose **Allow**.

> **Tip:** If you don’t see the padlock, click the three-dot menu at the top right of your browser → **Settings → Site permissions → Notifications** and add “okralonedashboard.com” (or your company’s specific domain) to the list of allowed sites.

##

## 2\. Enable Desktop Notifications in Windows 11

After granting browser permission, you must also allow your browser to display pop-up notifications in Windows 11.

  1. **Open Windows Settings:**

     * Click the **Start** button and select **Settings** , or press **Windows + I**.

  2. **Navigate to Notifications:**

     * In **Settings** , click **System** on the left pane.

     * Select **Notifications** from the right pane.

  3. **Ensure Notifications Are Enabled:**

     * Toggle **Notifications** to **On**.

     * Ensure **Play a sound when a notification arrives** is checked.

  4. **Allow Your Browser to Send Notifications:**

     * Scroll down to the list of apps under **Notifications**.

     * Find your browser (e.g., **Google Chrome** or **Microsoft Edge**) and click it.

     * In the browser’s notification settings, make sure:

       * **Notifications** is **On**

       * **Banners** is **On**

       * **Sounds** is **On**

> **Note:** If you use a different browser, follow the same steps. Look for your browser’s name under the apps list and ensure its notifications are fully allowed.

##

## 3\. Test Your Notification Settings

Once you’ve configured both browser and Windows permissions, run a quick Help Alert test to confirm everything is working:

  1. **Log in to the Ok Alone Dashboard** and locate the **Help Alert** button (often found on the main monitoring screen).

  2. **Send a Test Help Alert:**

     * Click **Help Alert** → **Send Help Alert**.

     * You should see a pop-up notification in the bottom right corner of your screen, accompanied by the alert sound you enabled.

  3. **Verify:**

     * If you see the notification and hear a sound, your settings are correct.

     * If not, revisit **Sections 1** and **2** to confirm both browser and Windows notifications are allowed.

##

## 4\. Tips & Best Practices

  * **Keep Your Browser Open:** Some browsers require an open window or tab for notifications to come through. Minimize (do not close) the Ok Alone Dashboard tab during your shift.

  * **Do Not Disturb & Focus Modes:** If you use Windows Focus assist (Do Not Disturb), make sure you’ve configured exceptions so that your browser can still display Ok Alone alerts. In **Settings → System → Focus assist** , add your browser under **Priority only** notifications.

  * **Volume & Sound Devices:** Confirm your speakers or headset are connected and at an audible volume. In **Settings → System → Sound** , test your output device before leaving for a shift.

  * **Browser Updates:** Regularly update your browser to avoid compatibility issues with notification APIs.
